HI,

I have had running debates with people about how humans should treat other animals and the environment generally. I am trying to find an acceptable medium between two extremes. Some of my friends are Vegans who refuse to use any animal products. No meat, no eggs, no leather in their cars. Their rationale is that killing animals is wrong, and that most animal products in the U.S. are the result of horrific industrial agriculture practices.Example: Egg production where hens are crammed into dangerous, filthy, vermin-invested spaces.I know other people, usually more Libertarian on the political scale, who have no qualms about killing animals or raising them in factory farms. They believe that humans, as the dominant species on the planet, have every right, and even a duty, to exercise control over animals for the benefit of humans. They honestly believe that pollution fears are overstated. Some claim that pollution fears are used to justify EPA regulation and federal control over their lives. Is it possible to find a middle ground here? Is it right that animals are raised for slaughter in abysmal conditions? I don't think it is right to make farm animals live in a constant state of suffering. But is that hypocritical of me, given that I eat some of these animals (poultry and fish), which requires that they be killed?

Please help.

I did not find the right solution from the internet.
