During Exilecon POE currency the yearly Path of Exile fan convention, Grinding Gear Games made many enormous announcements in regards to their ever-popular franchise. Obviously, the team at GGG was teasing the announcement of PoE version 4.0 for a while now, so it wasn't any surprise this was clearly one of, if not THE largest announcements at the show. Much more surprising? It'll be built in the launcher keeping the existing game together with its own successor.
Path of Exile two will essentially reflect a whole new story mode different to the original. There will be two opportunities at Character choice, and two campaigns inside one game. It will, of course, also bring enormous changes to the way the game plays, especially. Still, that update is over a year off, so that there was much more to be shown off.
For the ones that don't play the free-to-play ARG, Path of Exile receives seasonal upgrades (referred to as Leagues) approximately every 3 months. Additionally part of this Exilecon announcements was the next League, which has been titled Metamorph. Here, players will be tasked with collecting monster essences so as to create their very own beastly Metamorph, which then will supply its own unique rewards. This seems like the most original League in some time, so I look forward to seeing how it plays out (although Blight, the current League, is wonderful in its simplicity).
However, in order to have their gamers languishing for the next year as they wait on Path of Exile 2, GGG ALSO announced an upgrade to their favorite endgame content. This may release in mid-December alongside Metamorph.
And when these statements weren't already enough for the loving audience, GGG ended off the series with a very surprising announcement -- Path of Exile Mobile. Although this game is also a few months from launch, it did come as a surprise to everyone in attendance, although the announcement wasn't without a dig at their biggest competition -- Chris Wilson, Managing Director at Grinding Gear Games, said they determined it would be a fantastic idea to announce a full sequel before mentioning their mobile game. Chuckle.
The goal here is to offer a reasonable buy Path of exile currency free-to-play system on mobile, while also providing the same Path of Exile appearance and feel that gamers adore, but in play sessions. Colour me interested -- we'll see how it ends up on release.We'll keep you updated with no further progression or announcements here but remember the Metamorph and Conquerors of the Atlas are both scheduled to release on PC on December 13, 2019!
