The Bruins are hitting their stride at the right time. After a 38-20 victory over Southern California, U.C.L.A. can clinch the Pacific-12 South with a win and earn the right to play Oregon for the conference championship.
The Bruins have won their last five games utfifas and are at the top of the two-losses pack. Winning out would make a convincing argument that they belong in the College Football Playoff. It all starts with a win against Stanford, which won the last two Pac-12 titles, but has struggled this year. The Cardinal defense is among the best in the nation, but the offense is averaging 25.2 points per game, last in the Pac-12.
U.C.L.A. has no such problems. The Bruins average 35 points per game behind the stellar play of quarterback Brett Hundley and running back Paul Perkins. Hundley threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns and added another score on the ground in the victory over U.S.C. Perkins, the Pac-12’s leading rusher, averages 115 yards per game.
The defense has looked good lately, led by end Owamagbe Odighizuwa, who notched two sacks and was a disruptive force against the Trojans, and linebacker Eric Kendricks, www.utfifas.co who has led the team in tackles in every game this season. The unit gets an added advantage as Stanford’s best offensive weapon, the receiver and returner Ty Montgomery, will miss this game with a shoulder injury.
