When it comes to farming for Slicing there isn't really a set path that you swtor buy credits can follow. There are more... Locations that you will want to "hang out" at for gathering nodes. The two locations for Republic players that I have found on Ilum that are good are both friendly to Republic players. This means that the mobs in these areas will not attack you while you're here, which is great because you can run around freely and gather up all of the Slicing nodes!
For Republic players there are only two really good areas to farm with Slicing the first and best area is far northwest in the Talz area. This area will be completely friendly to you although you will run into quite a few Imperials here. That of course won't be a problem on a PvE server since they won't be able to attack you but on a PvP server they could very easily ruin your farming experience. Also up in this area you will find a chest, which this chest isn't some lackluster medicore chest, this is a full blown 3 pronged chest. That means it's the highest yield chest you can find.
I'm sure many questions are raised about this chest, luckily I can answer every single one of them with a single guide! If you'd like to learn everything you could possibly every want to know about this chest click here. The Slicing nodes and this chest up here have roughly a 10 minute respawn timer. I leave my slicer logged off here and switch to an alt after I'm done gathering everything for 10 to 15 minutes as I wait for these nodes to respawn.
Each time I log on my Slicer I gather the chest, all the nodes up in the northwest corner and then I move down to the chest around the center of Ilum (marked on my map northeast of the Republic Waystation) I grab the chest here and the Slicing node. Also the you can grab the chest next to the Republic Waystation if it's not being botted, which it is 24/7 on my server. After I grab that chest I head far northeast to the Imperial territory and grab the Slicing nodes up here as well as the chest. After I'm done that I return to the Talz area in the northwest and log off as I wait to start the cycle all over again.
